Please join us for a special tour of Prima Materia: The Periodic Table in Contemporary Art led by Anna Serotta, Associate Conservator at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Anna will lead participants through the exhibition’s galleries focusing on a selection of elements represented in the show. Anna shares, “many of the elements highlighted in the works in Prima Materia have long and fascinating histories. They imparted brilliant color to the ancient world and enabled the development of myriad visual cultures over millennia. This gallery tour will tell the stories of some of these elements through a conversation about technological innovation in antiquity, artists’ materials and meaning, and how materials science and craft are inextricably intertwined.”
Anna Serotta is an objects conservator specializing in the care and study of archaeological materials. She is an Associate Conservator at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, where her primary role is as conservator for the Egyptian Art collection. Anna is also a lecturer at the New York University Institute of Fine Arts Conservation Center, a Fellow of the American Academy in Rome, and she has worked as a field conservator on archaeological sites in Egypt, Greece, Italy and Turkey.
Join us for a panel conversation on Prima Materia: The Periodic Table in Contemporary Art with exhibiting artists Rachel Berwick, Myra Mimlitsch-Gray, and Winston Roeth, moderated by the exhibition’s curator Richard Klein.
