A Change of View

“A Change of View” inaugurates a fresh approach to the selection and presentation of works of art for our annual fall exhibition. While continuing the tradition of presenting new acquisitions, gifts, and loans of the past year in conjunction with a number of works from the museum collection we have added a new feature. In order to present a more balanced view of the contemporary scene than is possible from drawing from these sources alone, we have borrowed extensively from galleries, private collectors, and induvial artists.

In making our selections, we have aimed to present at least some of the major trends and changing view in art of the last decade which appear to take place with such great rapidity in our time. Acceleration of change is perhaps symptomatic of man’s general thrust into space, into fundamental discovery and invention in the atomic age. The necessity for a flexible viewpoint is present in all of our activities and encounters. In this light the theme for this exhibition has evolved. In certain ways it may become promising for museum exhibitions to come.
