Chuck Close: Photographs

Chuck Close is best known as an artist whose larger than life portraits are derived from photographs. However, after using photographs as a source for his paintings, he is now making photographs which exist as his final work.

Though Chuck Close is equated with gigantic polaroid portraits and commanding techniques, he can always wield his familiar imagery into freshened intensity. The black and white and monochrome works on paper in this exhibition have been culled from over a decade of experiments. The self-portraits and portrayals of friends are a powerful confrontation of character.
