Contemporary Reflections 1976-77

The Sixth Annual Contemporary Reflections Exhibition continues the Aldrich Museum program for presenting newly emerging artists. Formed of an annual survey of artists not yet represented in a major metropolitan gallery, the exhibition selection reflects upon current studio activity, within the immediate region of New York and the north-easter states.

The aim of this survey exhibition is to show serious artists intent upon their statements as evidenced by viewing a body of their developed work. While the artists apply through a slide presentation of their most recent work, the eventual choice of their work exhibited results from a studio visit in which the original works are seen and the working background of the artists is observable first-hand. Each artists visited is represented by a single work in the exhibition, selected as a major example of the artist’s present concerns.

Choices are made, not solely from young artists, but from artists of any age who are newly arriving at a fresh statement in terms of significant ideas and images born of continuous endeavor. We seek to report on activity that truthfully reflects the vitality and concerns of the current art scene, providing our museum public with a view it might not have otherwise. Simultaneously, our purpose is to give the artists an opportunity to be seen in a formal museum setting at a time when it may importantly contribute to their careers.
