Highlights of the 1969-70 Art Season

This is our sixth annual summer Highlights exhibition. We have collected two or three works by each of the twenty-eight artists who we feel had the most exciting and significant one-man shows this year in the New York City art galleries. Ten of the artists had their first one-man shows in New York this year: Lynda Benglis, Natvar Bhavsar, Jack Brusca, John Griefen, Tom Holland, Richard Kalina, Ronnie Landfield, Pat Lipsky, Ken Showell, and Nina Yankowitz. The trend toward lyrical abstract painting which had its beginning in last year’s Highlights show has developed into a broad movement among the younger artists. The work of most the artists who had their first one-man shows this year was in this vein.

Artists: Edward Avedisian, Walter Darby Bannard, Lynda Benglis, Natvar Bhavsar, Jack Brusca, Ron Davis, Jim Dine, Robert Duran, Robert Goodnough, John Griefen, Alfred Jensen, Jasper Johns, Tom Holland, Richard Kalina, Jane Kaufman, Ronnie Landfield, Pat Lipsky, Ray Parker, Ed Ruda, Ken Showell, Tal Streeter, Richard Van Buren, Isaac Witkin, Philip Wofford, Nina Yankowitz, Mario Yrisarry, Larry Zox, Robert Zakanitch
