Traditionally, the figure was treated naturally or it was idealized. While modern art continued this academic path, a number of artists began exploring the possibilities of other stylistic approaches giving the figure a new vitality and significance. Lester Johnson’s figurative work falls into this latter group. His appealing inventive style, which is expressionistic, becomes a graphic vehicle for his subjective ideas.
