The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum

Pipilotti Rist has been using video installation as her primary medium for the past twenty years. Poetic, sensual, and dreamlike, Rist’s work frequently explores the transient and flawed nature of beauty, particularly through the human body. In Gradstein fur RW, the artist has inserted a provocative video of herself into a gravestone-like object, connecting the eternal themes of sex and death. The inscription “Rote Wolken” (Red Cloud) suggests a connection between the corporeal and the spiritual realms. Pipilotti Rist lives and works in Zurich.
