Rick Shaefer: Constructed Landscapes

As the 20th century draws to a close, a growing number of contemporary artists have seemingly turned away from modernism and, particularly, formalist doctrine. Rick Shaefer, through his recent work in landscape, has not only opened a door to a whole host of issues that modernism and postmodernism had declared off-limits, but has also revisited earlier dilemmas of the early 19th century.
