Join us for evening guided meditations in the galleries of the current exhibition Elizabeth Englander: Eminem Buddhism, Volume 3 led by Kristen Davis, the ino (head of the meditation hall) at Brooklyn Zen Center’s Boundless Mind Temple. The classes will include an introduction to the practice of Zen Buddhist tradition called zazen. Participants will be guided through a seated meditation that will take place among artist Elizabeth Englander’s yogini sculptures, cultivating rest and awareness within the body. Englander’s yoginis demonstrate seated postures of zazen informed by the artist’s own spiritual practice of Zen Buddhism.

Elizabeth Englander: Eminem Buddhism, Volume 3 is organized by Eduardo Andres Alfonso, Associate Curator at The Aldrich, and is on view through October 27, 2024.

Kristen Davis Bio

Kristen Davis has been practicing Soto Zen Buddhism for 13 years and is a senior student at Brooklyn Zen Center. She currently serves as the ino, or head of the meditation hall, at Brooklyn Zen Center’s Boundless Mind Temple in New York City. Kristen has been teaching yoga and Alexander Technique since 1995. For 14 years, Kristen was the owner and director of Yogasana Center in Brooklyn, NY. Beyond her original 1600 hour Alexander Technique training, she completed a post-graduate training in the Art of Breathing with Jessica Wolf in 2006. Her yoga studies have been predominantly in the Iyengar tradition, most importantly with her teacher and mentor, Donald Moyer. Kristen has been regularly leading Yoga, Alexander Technique, and Zen retreats at both Tassajara Zen Mountain Monastery and Green Gulch Farm Zen Center since 2016. She is so happy to support fellow sangha member, Elizabeth Englander, and to share a practice of embodied movement and stillness.
